Lava Blox

Lava Blox is a multiplayer online platform game developed by Blocky Studios and released in 2022. The game is set in a series of procedurally generated arenas composed of floating blocks. The primary environmental hazard is a rising pool of molten lava that gradually consumes the lowest layers of the arena. Players control a single block-shaped avatar and must climb upward to avoid the lava while competing against up to 15 other players. The last player remaining above the lava line wins the round. The game features a minimalist visual style with flat shading and a fixed isometric camera angle. No narrative or character customization is present; gameplay is purely survival-based.

Gameplay mechanics are turn-based in short rounds lasting up to three minutes. Each round begins with all players positioned on a flat platform. After a five-second countdown, the lava begins rising at a constant rate of one block layer every eight seconds. Players move using the WASD keys for horizontal movement and the Spacebar to jump. Holding the Spacebar performs a higher jump, but only if the player is on a solid block. Players can also press the E key to place a temporary block directly beneath their avatar, which lasts for four seconds before disintegrating. This block can be used to create a stepping stone or to block an opponent’s path. Tactical techniques include “lava baiting,” where a player waits near the lava edge to force an opponent to jump early, causing them to land on a disintegrating block. Another technique is “block denial,” where a player places a block in front of an opponent’s jump trajectory to disrupt their landing. The game ends when one player remains or when the lava reaches the topmost layer, at which point the player closest to the center of the final platform wins. No power-ups or weapons are present.
