Infinite Ascent

Infinite Ascent is a vertical-scrolling platformer released in 2023 by independent developer Neon Forge. The game is set in a procedurally generated tower that extends infinitely upward. The player controls a lone climber, designated K-7, who must ascend through shifting environmental layers, each presenting unique hazards and resource scarcity. The primary objective is to achieve the highest possible altitude without falling or depleting the character's oxygen supply. The game features a minimalist art style with a monochromatic palette accented by color-coded interactive elements. No narrative cutscenes or dialogue are present; progression is conveyed solely through environmental changes and unlockable equipment.

Gameplay mechanics center on stamina management and precise timing. The player character automatically clings to any surface within reach. Movement is controlled via the left analog stick or W/A/S/D keys for directional climbing. The A button or Spacebar initiates a jump, which consumes stamina. Holding the jump button while near a wall triggers a wall-kick, allowing lateral movement. The right trigger or left mouse button activates a grappling hook, which attaches to designated anchor points. Stamina regenerates only when the character stands still on a flat surface. Oxygen depletes continuously and is replenished by collecting blue canisters. Tactical techniques include chaining wall-kicks to bypass large gaps, using the grappling hook to swing past collapsing platforms, and conserving stamina by sliding down vertical surfaces with the down directional input. Environmental hazards include crumbling blocks, wind gusts that alter jump trajectory, and electrified surfaces that require insulated boots, which are found as permanent upgrades. The game saves progress at every 100-meter milestone.
